Housing and environment

Plymouth is a vibrant city with exceptional access to green space, competitively priced housing and high quality schools.

Open space
Plymouth has a huge range of natural spaces to enjoy. These include 23 County Wildlife Sites, eight Local Nature Reserves, eight Sites of Special Interest, 26 Parks and many other spaces for nature. Plymouth also borders three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (Cornwall, Tamar Valley and South Devon), Dartmoor National Park, eight national trust parks and houses and a European Marine Site. It is 24 miles of coastline in the city, 10 of which are part of the SouthWest Coastal Path.

Housing
The city is opening itself up to its unique natural harbour setting and wide open green space. Major and nationally recognised regeneration of the historic Devonport area with projects like Mountwise and Royal William Yard are leading the charge. While more established areas like Plymton, Plymstock, Hartley, Stoke, Derriford or Mannamead provide high quality new or old housing in established and characterful neighbourhoods and always close to green space.

Schools and Colleges
Plymouth has a relatively high number of schools for the size of population, 97 in all and which have been collectively assessed as high performing, as well as two highly regarded further education colleges in City College Plymouth and Plymouth College of Art. In September the Marine Academy launched as the countries first secondary school focused on its marine environment. There are highly regarded independent schools in the city and surrounding region including Plymouth College, with exceptional sporting standards including world diving champion Tom Daly and offering the international baccalaureate within its syllabus.

Cost of living
Plymouth offers a very competitive package for living costs. Average house prices for Plymouth are in the region of £150,000, a full £100,000 less than the wider South West region.

Safe city
Plymouth is a safe city compared to other urban conurbations. Low crime rates, strong communities and neighbourhoods makes the city an easy place to settle into without fear of crime.
