Sports
Plymouth is a sports enthusiasts idea of heaven.
Our quiet woods, exposed moorland and the waterfront location lends itself to the outdoor world. We have some of countries best cycle routes, particularly the Plym Valley Trail, a top 10 national road race in the Half Marathon,
Oursailing and water-sports is top drawer and there is lots of it. We are hosting the America’s Cup Series in September, the biggest event in sailing, returning home for the first time in over 150 years. We have some of the best marinas in the country, the best diving conditions and lots lots more. There are a host of other regattas and events throughout the year including Plymouth Race Week, National Squib Championships, the Rolex Fastnet finish and many others.
For indoor sports the £46m Life Centre when it opens later this year will provide international quality and a national centre for excellence, providing top-class sport and leisure facilities in the city, housing amongst others the Canadian diving team in preparation for the Olympic Games.
For the armchair fans the city has plenty of professionals too;
Plymouth Argyle; one of the oldest and most venerable names in professional football.
Plymouth Albion; a stalwart in the second division of the English league.
Plymouth Raiders; one of the countries top basketball teams playing in the top franchise league, the British Basketball League.
