Visit

The 51 towns and cities named Plymouth around the world testify to the longevity of this place. It’s a city known for its history and its procession of renowned personalities.

Welcome to our beautiful waterfront city, right in the centre of Devon and Cornwall. We’re surrounded by outstanding coastline and moorland, with a sweeping sea vista, best viewed from our world-famous Plymouth Hoe. As a city we’ve got it all; we’re right in the middle of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with Dartmoor National Park to the north, the natural harbour of Plymouth Sound and the Plym and Tamar River estuaries on either side.

Our rich marine heritage, our vibrant entertainment culture, our accessibility to one of Britain’s great wilderness and our enviable waterfront and marinescape puts Plymouth firmly on the map for visitors who can also explore Devon and Cornwall easily from here.

Water plays a huge part in Plymouth’s day-to-day. You’ll be able to enjoy it too, thanks to activities like sailing and kayaking, and scuba diving on sunken wrecks, like the Scylla, Britain’s only underwater marine park. Or if you want to see marine life without getting wet, we’re home to the UK’s deepest fish tank at the National Marine Aquarium.

But it isn’t just these hidden gems that encourage visitors and the people who live here to fall in love with it; it’s the city’s quirky charm. It is the people and their unique outlook on life; get talking to a Plymothian and you soon know about it. (meet Plymouth’s people).
